Comedian Jerry Lewis Postpones Casino Performance Due to Heart Attack
16 June 2006
U.S. comedy legend Jerry Lewis recently suffered a heart attack during a flight from New York to San Diego. According to Candi Cazau, a spokesperson of the Las Vegas' Orleans Hotel & Casino, where Lewis was scheduled to give a series of performances next month, the attack was relatively "mild." Lewis was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The eighty-year-old comedian has been plagued by ill health for the last twenty years, fighting grave diseases, such as prostate cancer and meningitis. Nevertheless, the casino official also reportedly commented that, despite Lewis' poor health, doctors expected him to make full recovery, and that Lewis' performance was not canceled but postponed.
Lewis is famous for his comedy partnership with actor Dean Martin during the 50's, before he participated in films, like The Ladies Man and the original The Nutty Professor. On a previous occasion, the casino-performing comedian said that, regardless of his ailment, he intended to create a musical version of The Nutty Professor on a Broadway stage.
