Authorities Identify Idaho Casino Explosion Victims
3 July 2006
Two tribal gaming facility employees in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, died last week in a blaze on the grounds of the Coeur d'Alene Casino. The two victims passed away inside a metal shipping container that exploded and caught fire. Police detectives assigned to the case said they were trying to determine whether or not the casino's fireworks were responsible for the explosion.
According to more recent reports, the two men were identified as casino maintenance workers Donald S. Hanson and Richard E. Stokes. Authorities reportedly suspect that the victims somehow got trapped inside the container that served as storage for the casino. Investigators were reported as saying that the incident did not appear to be arson.
Sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger reportedly said that the sheriff's department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives would continue the casino investigation into this week.
